Can I sue for harassment and false police reports?

I met this guy last year who claimed he wasn’t married. I found out he was married. He called the police when I found out. I left him alone because I was pregnant. Later on, he kept calling the police to report that I was harassing him, while he was still at my house, making false accusations to deceive his wife. It caused me to miscarry. He kept making false police reports to ruin my background. I recently went to get a job in law enforcement, and I found out he had been calling the police behind my back.

Your next step should be to reach out to a personal injury lawyer (Black's Law Dictionary). You do have grounds for a civil suit, and a letter of intent to sue is a step in the right direction.

Good morning, my name is Chris. I am an attorney. I am here to assist you. Tell me about your situation. What do you want to sue over?

Were any charges ever filed?

No.

Have you obtained a restraining order on him?

No. The first time I got arrested was after I lost our first child. I went to his house in complete shock and found out he was married. I got arrested for obstruction of an officer, but he bailed me out. But he kept calling the police behind my back, saying I was harassing him. While doing that, he was also planning to put me in an apartment. I was carrying his child.

Are you still in contact with him? Is he making any threats toward you?

No. He just lied to the police, saying I was harassing him, which is a false report. He is a deputy at a jail.

Chris Fried

Was a police report filed, or was it just an interview?

He filed it. No interview.

But it went nowhere?

No. But when I apply to law enforcement jobs, it comes up in the background check.

Chris Fried

Understood.

He would threaten me, telling me he was an officer so he could do this. He raped me one night and his only response was he thought I wanted it. Just so much trauma from dealing with him. Medical bills, too.

Have you filed a police report over the rape?

No. He’s a deputy.

Chris Fried

Chris Fried

Have you thought about a civil suit over it?

Yes, I have. That’s why I’m reaching out. I got him admitting it on tape.

Have you reached out to personal injury attorneys?

No, I haven’t.

Okay. I don’t know what to say. I wrote my letter of intent to sue, but I don’t know if it’s injury-related law.

Being raped falls under being injured.
