How do I start an uncontested divorce without children?

Me and my husband have both agreed to get a divorce with no problems. I don’t know how to start this—do I just print out the papers?

You will need to print out the papers, complete them, and have your signatures notarized before taking them to file at the courthouse.

I understand that you and your husband have agreed to get a divorce. Have you both discussed the terms of the divorce, such as asset division and child custody arrangements?

We have no assets together or children.

Are you looking for guidance on how to proceed with filing for divorce in your state?

Yes. Do I just print out papers and call the courthouse?

Is there anything else the Family Lawyer should know before I connect you? Rest assured they’ll be able to help with filing for divorce.

No. We both agreed on this divorce and want to get it finalized.

Do you have the divorce forms for the county where you live?

I haven't received a response, so I'm following up to ensure we are still connected. I hope you can return to the question.

If you have the divorce forms, please complete them with your information. Both you and your husband will need to have your signatures notarized. Once that's done, you can take the forms to the courthouse to file. Be prepared to pay a filing fee, so it's a good idea to contact the court clerk to confirm the correct payment type before you arrive.

Do you have any other questions?

I need to print out papers.

It’s an agreement between both of us. We have no children together.

I was going to call them tomorrow. I filled out papers on here—does that work?

How do we notarize them?

You go to a person who is a registered notary public, and they witness you sign. Most banks have notary publics available.

I have to pay again to get them notarized?

There is usually a small fee for a notary.

So I can get them notarized on here?

You may be able to find a remote online notary, but if not you will have to visit a notary in person.
