One school softball team is playing another. It’s out of season. We are required to have the team sanctioned by one of the associations, get insurance, and the insurance company requires a liability waiver. Who should be released from liability? The coach putting on the game or the school at which the game is occurring.

A white female student stalked and harassed me for half a year. The university placed a no-contact directive on her, which she violated. I got a temporary restraining order against her — she violated that too. After a long, year-long investigation, the university found that she did engage in stalking, harassment, and racial and age discrimination. Her sanction was a three-year suspension, a permanent no-contact order, and mandatory behavioral training. I appealed, saying the emotional and academic harm I suffered warranted a harsher sanction, but my appeal was denied. I believe the instructor of the class where this occurred failed to (a) protect me and (b) properly report the harassment. The university also dragged their feet during the investigation and didn’t act in my best interest. I want to sue the university for damages.

Local school board in Tennessee initiated a policy that I feel unreasonably restricts the public ability to speak at the meetings. It requires you to be a Hamlin County resident, provide your full address, request permission from the director of schools five days prior to the meeting specifically providing topics you wish to discuss, and a conversation with the director regarding the topics you wish to discuss in order to be put on the agenda to speak. On top of this the district does not release a very basic version of the agenda until sometime the day you must have permission and no supporting documentation is provided with the agenda to the public—you must request this information be sent to you via email.

I moved from out of state, and my two kids are not going to school. The district has filed charges against me. I understand that I will need to deal with the consequences of the charges, but going forward, I feel my only option to get them any schooling is homeschool. I have already had a couple of court appearances. I wasn’t willing to hire my own lawyer, so I have a public defender to handle my case, but with some inexperience in this type of case, I haven’t really gotten much help. They have missed a lot of school and I have been racking my brains on how to get to the bottom of this, and after some research, I found a home schooling program that may suit my children better. As the school district has already filed charges against me, can the homeschool option be a way around facing jail time or future charges by the district?
