[CA] [CA] Can I seal certain records so they don’t appear in a background check?

Hi, I recently received a background check that may affect my job offer in New Jersey. I’ve lived most of my life in California, and I believe some of the court records used may be outdated or inaccurate. Given the recent appellate court rulings about public access to court records, can I request that certain records be sealed or removed from third-party background reports? And is there a way to ensure older, resolved cases aren’t used against me unfairly during employment screening?

If I didn’t sign a non-compete, can I still see my clients?

I'm a hairdresser and I'm leaving my salon for one closer to home. When I put in my notice, my boss implied he'd sue me if I contacted clients — he says contacting clients is “stealing” information from the salon. I never signed a non-compete. Is there real grounds to sue, or is he just trying to scare me?

I’m a QA Supervisor for a BioPharma company in Pennsylvania. Hostile work environment. Noncompliant workplace with FDA regulations, don’t feel safe at work. I was just threatened with potential retaliation with violence if I continue to pursue disciplinary action against a warehouse worker because he’s a boxer, and the owner likes him because he “does things for the owner,” insinuating I should back off.

[NY] [NY] Can I sue for wrongful termination?

I was a worker at a national retailer for at least 3 and a half years. Until a random person walked in while I was working on the floor. I was packing out merchandise, and he started grabbing things off the shelves. He verbally and physically tried to assault me. He swung a punch, and I had to defend myself and duck his punch. I punched back and hit him, then I had to fill out a report statement. In a few days, they called me and terminated me. I was actually injured in my left shoulder and have been living in pain ever since that day. I wanted to know if I have a case and where do I go from here. Thanks.
