Is a US power of attorney effective abroad?
Hi! I have questions about Power of Attorney. My mom is bedridden and wishes to grant POA to myself and by brother. I’m a bit confused by the word Financial being included in the title. She is looking to designate us as her agents in everything as she is unable to physically go anywhere. We will need to get her ID card, US passport, and also work with the Colombian consulate to establish her dual US/Colombian citizenship. Is this the correct form for all of that? Should there be more?

That is exactly right, but that is a Colombian law question about the validity of outside POAs in their country, so I can't address that directly as I am an expert in US law. But generally, you seem to understand the exact requirements necessary.

Hi, yes for the first question. For the second, I believe the answer to be yes as well because we would be dealing with the Colombian Consulate here in the states to process her Colombian citizenship.
Her mother (my grandmother) was born in Colombia, so my mom wishes to prove her Colombian citizenship by descent.

If you simply using this power of attorney in the United States, then you just need to have is signed and notarized, and it will be effective.
What would I need to do if I needed to use it in Colombia? Do I get it translated and/or apostilled? Something like that?
