[AZ] [AZ] How do I revoke a durable power of attorney?
In Arizona, you do not need an attorney to cancel a Durable Financial POA, and there is usually no cost, other than optional notary or mailing fees.
Here’s what to do:
- Prepare a Revocation of Power of Attorney stating you revoke the prior POA (A.R.S. § 14-5505).
- Sign and notarize it (A.R.S. § 41-311 & § 41-313).
- Give written notice to your sister and any banks or institutions that had the original POA.
- Destroy or mark “REVOKED” on all old copies.
A notary or document preparer may charge $10–$25, but hiring a lawyer is not required.

About a year ago I set up a Durable Financial POA in Arizona. The principal designate was my sister. I no longer need the POA to be in effect. What do I need to do to cancel this Durable Financial POA? I did have the document notarized.

Have you discussed this decision with your sister?
Yes, she knows that I am going to cancel it.

Do you have a copy of the original Durable Financial POA?
Yes.

Is there anything else the lawyer should know?
How much will they charge to do this?
Richard
Could you tell me more about any fees you've been informed about regarding the cancellation?
The $49 fee I just paid for advice on canceling the POA.
