[FL] Am I liable for my late husband’s credit card debt?
Generally, you’re not personally responsible for a deceased spouse’s individual debts. Debts are paid from the estate if there are assets (§§ 733.702). You could be responsible only if you co-signed or held a joint account. Creditors may try to recover through the estate and could seek a lien that might affect the house, depending on how it passes (Art. X, § 4).

My husband passed in April. I’m getting requests from credit card companies addressed to “Estate of…”. The house was in his name and I am the successor. No other assets or money—lived month to month. Am I responsible for his debt and can they come after the house? It’s 3–5 cards, maybe $10k total.

Hello, I’m Benjamin, an attorney (19+ years). Were these debts in your spouse’s name only? What are the creditors saying when they call?
I don't know.
