[GA] [GA] What has to be published to change a name?
It's the notice of name change. It's a limited form, it just has to publish that you are entering a petition for the name change and that anyone who intends to file has 30 days to do so.

Name Change
Full Conversation
I'm finally ready for my son to get a legal name change. He was born abroad to two US citizens, but his Born Abroad birth certificate has a last name that's different than his social security card and state ID. I'm just trying to verify what forms I need to file for a legal name change so that he can get a driver's permit.

I understand the importance of getting your son's name legally changed. Have you already looked into the specific requirements for a legal name change in your state?
I have.

Are you currently working with an attorney or planning to handle the name change process on your own?
On my own.

Is there anything else the Family Lawyer should know before I connect you? Rest assured they'll be able to help with your name change.
I don't know.
Elizabeth
Hi there! My name is Liz and I’ve been an attorney for more than a decade, and I am here to assist with your legal concerns. So I can best help, in what state are you doing the name change?
GA
Elizabeth
Wonderful. What forms do you have currently?
The only one I have so far is what I assume is the Petition for Name Change I filled out through the GA court website. I know that I need something to submit to a specific local newspaper as well to announce the intent to change his name.

Is that the only two forms I need to file? And which, if any, of them need to be notarized?
Elizabeth
So the newspaper and is not filed with the court. It will run for four weeks, and the affidavit of publishing will come from the newspaper. You will then file that affidavit with the court. You will also submit a proposed order of name change.
And that's all there is to it?
Elizabeth
Does the other parent also agree?
Yes she agrees.
Elizabeth
Perfect, that should make it a fairly smooth process.
Elizabeth
If I can be of help, please let me know.
