How do I get a US visa as a resident of Saudi Arabia?
The B-2 visa is for tourism, visiting family or friends, medical treatment, and short, unpaid recreational courses.
Steps to apply:
• Complete the DS-160 (online visa application): ceac.state.gov
Select the U.S. Embassy in Riyadh or the Consulate in Jeddah or Dhahran for your interview.
Print the DS-160 confirmation page with the barcode.
• Go to the U.S. Visa Information and Appointment website: www.ustraveldocs.com
Create a profile and pay the non-refundable $185 USD visa fee (via SADAD or credit card).
• Log in and book an interview appointment at the Embassy in Riyadh or the Consulates in Jeddah or Dhahran.
Choose your passport delivery location.
Bring to your interview:
– Valid passport (valid at least 6 months beyond your intended stay)
– DS-160 confirmation page
– Appointment confirmation
– Visa fee receipt
– Passport photo (2x2 inches, white background)
– Proof of ties to Saudi Arabia: employment letter, sponsor letter, residency (Iqama), bank statements
– Family documents (if visiting relatives)
– Travel itinerary (if available)
– Invitation letter (if visiting family or friends)
You do not need to buy a plane ticket before approval.
At the interview, be honest, concise, and clear about your temporary travel plans and your intent to return to Saudi Arabia.
If approved, your passport will be returned with the visa. If denied, the officer will explain the reason (often under INA §214(b)).
