My wife is Latino (Peruvian). I have not lived in the States since I was 13, but I am a U.S. citizen living in Canada. Would it be easy or safe for us to live in the USA, or should we stay in Canada? I’m worried for her. And I don’t exist in the U.S. past the age of 13 — I haven’t done my taxes and don’t know what to do. Is it safe for me to live in the US with my Peruvian wife if we've been living in Canada and I haven't filed my US taxes?

I’m already on H-1B and living in the U.S. over 6 years; I-140 since 2022. My current I-797 expires Aug 31, 2025. Employer already extended H-1B from Sep 1, 2025 to Aug 31, 2028; I have the original I-797. Work environment is toxic; it’s affecting my mental health. If I quit tomorrow, what happens? Do I get 60 days from tomorrow, or can I stay until Aug 31, 2025 (current I-797 end date)?

I’m on H1B and in a tricky work situation. My manager and director are being unreasonable in a toxic way that’s affecting my mental health. I’m reaching out to HR, but I want to protect my legal status while I find another job. My H1B is renewing on August 31, 2025 (current I-797 to a new one valid from September 1, 2025 to August 31, 2028). If I get fired now (or quit), another attorney told me I must leave the U.S. on or before August 31, 2025 to avoid accruing unlawful presence. If I get fired (or quit) on or after September 1, 2025, I’ll have 60 days to leave. How can I protect my legal status while in this tricky situation? Can I initiate a B2 already, anticipating retaliation, to prevent unlawful presence if I’m fired today? If I get fired today, how long does it take to file I-539? Will I have sufficient time before August 31, 2025?

I’m on H-1B with Company A. I-797A valid through Aug 31, 2025; new I-797A already approved for Sept 1, 2025–Aug 31, 2028. Work environment is toxic; I want to switch. I thought if I quit now, I’d have to leave by Aug 31, 2025 because 60-day grace vs. status end. I considered filing B-2 to be safe. But my latest I-94 shows “Admit Until: Sept 10, 2025.” Can I lawfully stay without a job until Sept 10? Do I still get 60 days, or must I leave Aug 31 or Sept 10, or file B-2?

Hey, my husband is from Sand Hill, Belize. He recently came out here to live, but he doesn’t have a passport or Social Security number. Can you help me? He only has his ID from Belize. What documents does he need to get an ITIN number?
