I need help evicting a friend with a drug problem.

My sister owns the house I live in and I allowed a friend to live there. He has been there for about 21 years. In the last 5 years he appears to have developed schizophrenia and has tried to self-medicate with marijuana and meth. He often hallucinates and hears voices and talks back to the voices which can be screaming and through the night. He has trashed one or more rooms in the house three times. The City has red-tagged the house and will only remove it if I start the process of eviction.

You can pursue eviction with the 60-day notice and then petition in court. I would consider farming this out to an eviction firm that can expedite on a flat-fee basis and which can be hired easily and locally. Another option is cash-for-keys — offer a little money to leave right away in exchange for not being evicted and not having an eviction on their record.

How much is it to ask questions here? I am giving a 60-day notice.

Maybe.

Have you consulted with a lawyer before about this issue?

No.

Is there anything else the lawyer should know before I connect you? Rest assured they’ll be able to help with your eviction process.

How much?

Hello and welcome. My name is Daniel, and I’ve been a licensed lawyer for over 21 years. I’m truly sorry you’re going through this. I’ll do my best to help and treat your questions with care. To better understand your situation, I have a quick clarifying question: could you please share a bit more about what happened? It would really help me get a clearer picture.

He has an appointment tomorrow to talk to a county worker about options of where he may be able to go. He doesn’t know yet, and the worker will arrive tomorrow at 9 am. That is an option, but at this point, I am just trying to get the 60-day notice to him so that I don’t get kicked out by the red tag on Friday. I am figuring that if I give him the papers on June 18th, then 60 days would be Friday, September 12th, which includes only weekdays and not July 4 or Labor Day.

I like the cash-for-keys and that might be a good option in a few days after you give this notice.

I am thinking that I am set. I just need to print out the 60-day notice.
