[CA] Is a Special Needs Trust worth setting up?

Do I need a trust to preserve my benefits ($700/mo General Assistance; SSI pending)? I’m about to get a ~$12k settlement, but I’ll leave for Canada in 2–3 months (likely asylum). Should I use a Special Needs Trust? Could the settlement attorney do a disbursing agreement to keep me under the notification limit (~$1,260?) until I’m in Canada? Once I’m abroad, San Francisco will end GA anyway.

I’ve resigned from my job, and my employer said my commissions will be held until I sign a departure agreement that includes a non-solicitation/non-compete clause. I live in New Hampshire since December, but I lived in Massachusetts during the rest of my employment from April 2023 to December 2024. Do they legally need to pay my commissions and earned wages if I don’t sign that agreement?

[TX] How do I sue for withholding a security deposit?

My landlords are withholding my security deposit. They withheld my entire $2,600. We did not document the move out. Our lease ended on 3/31. We moved most of our stuff out on 3/28. They asked us on 3/28 if they need to move out our stuff for us. And we told them no, we aren't done moving and cleaning. They began cleaning and repairs on 3/28. We had also told them in our email that we would like to do a walkthrough. We told them this in our notice that we are not renewing our lease in January. We agreed on a walkthrough on 3/30. When we arrived, a lot was already cleaned and repaired. So we didn't see a point in taking pictures.

Does the heir in my will have to be a family member?

I am writing a very simple will in Michigan. I chose not to use the Statutory version because I want to name a single heir who is not a child or close relative. I have no children. I am married but if we die in an accident together, or he proceeds me in death, we only want one person to inherit all the residue of the estate. We also want this person to be our personal representative. Is this allowed?
