What are my legal options if I am doxxed?
Thank you for sharing that with me. I really appreciate your time. I've prepared your answer with your concerns in mind, so please take all the time you need to review it. If anything isn’t clear or if you have any more questions, don’t hesitate to reach out. I’m here to help in any way I can.
You already took good steps with the FBI and on the platform. You can also look at a police report. If you have true identity, you can take to court. You can also sue the platform to disclose the name. You may be able to bring this matter before the court on an expedited basis using a special motion called an Order to Show Cause.
It’s essentially a motion supported by an affidavit. The court clerk can often provide a form for this, or a local attorney can prepare it. Does all of that make sense to you?

Hello and welcome. My name is Daniel, and I’ve been a licensed lawyer for over 21 years. I’m really sorry you’re going through this. I’ll do my best to help and will treat your questions with care.
To better understand your situation, I have a clarifying question. Could you please share a bit more about what happened? It would really help me get a clearer picture.
I was doxxed in real time last Thursday. He went through my GitHub and Upwork accounts, which are linked to my LinkedIn.
He then sent me threatening messages through an alt account after getting banned from a server, and deleted them after.
I took screenshots to preserve evidence
He mentioned my full name and city, said he hears and knows everything, and said you know what is coming.
I reported him to Discord and ic3.
Also, I am not the only victim. he doxxed another user and threatened to kill him and his family, and mentioned his city multiple times. He also sent emails to his wife.
Dan
Got it. Thanks! Have you taken any other steps so far to try to resolve this?
I also reported him to the server, and he and his alt accounts got banned.
Dan
Okay, thank you. Please bear with me as I'm working on your answer. Thank you for your patience.
Thank you

Good. I want to make sure the answer is clear and that you fully understand it. If you have any follow-up questions or need anything clarified, please feel free to ask. If everything makes sense, you can simply reply with “all set.” Thank you!
Can you give me a checklist regarding next steps?
Dan
- Follow with FBI.
- Police report.
- Consider having a lawyer following with discord to share name.
- Consider suing discord to get the name disclosed.
I did 1 but haven't done 2, 3, 4 yet.
I can start with 2.
Thanks!
Dan
Most welcome.
