[DC] I’m a cop. Can I carry under LEOSA while I’m working my other job?
LEOSA generally allows qualified active/retired officers to carry concealed nationwide, including DC. But it’s not unlimited. It doesn’t override:
- Employer policies (private or government);
- Restrictions on government property, including certain areas beyond buildings (D.C. Code § 7-2509.07);
- Federal restrictions and posted no-carry areas.
For your DC second job, a DC government agency can set work-rules that bar employees from carrying while on duty—even if you’re otherwise covered by LEOSA—and those rules can apply to the areas where you perform work (including streets or right-of-way under their control). Compliance with employer policy is required while on duty.
Best next steps: review the employee handbook/HR policy on weapons and confirm with HR or the agency’s legal office how the rule applies to your particular work location on the street.

I’m a law enforcement officer. In my second job (non-LEO) I work on a public street. Can that government employer restrict me from carrying at work if LEOSA lets me carry in all 50 states?

Can you share more about the specific non-law-enforcement job?
I work in the public street.
Lexi, Chatbot
What state do you work in?
DC.

To confirm—you want to know if LEOSA allows you to carry while working your non-LEO government job?
Yes. If I work for a non-LEO government job, can they restrict me while I’m working in the public streets?
