[OR] [OR] How long does it take a judge to make a ruling on a name change petition?
Once you submit this with the court, it will be presented to the judge for review (OR Rev Stat § 33.460(3)). It could take a few weeks to get in front of the judge and then, depending on your county and where you filed, it will either be approved or set for a hearing. I would give it 4 weeks and you can also call the clerk or go in person to see if the judge typically will set it for a hearing.

How long will it take to hear back from the judge?
Lexi, Chatbot
I understand waiting for a response can be stressful. Can you tell me more about your case and why you're waiting to hear back from the judge?
Name change and sex.
Lexi, Chatbot
Have you already attended a court hearing or trial related to this matter?
No, submitted the paperwork.
Lexi, Chatbot
Is there anything else the Criminal Lawyer should know before I connect you? Rest assured they'll be able to help with your name change and sex.
No.
Alex, Esq.
This is Alex, Esq., and welcome to AskaLawyer. I have been a legal expert on the site for over a decade.
Alex, Esq.
I know you have questions about the name change. Can you share with me some background? Also, what state did you file in?
Oregon, and I would like to legally go by the name on petition.
Alex, Esq.
How long ago did you file this with the court?
I'm new to the whole thing, so just wondering about the process and about how long it takes.
Alex, Esq.
Ok, thank you.
Alex, Esq.

Ok sounds good. I have an Assault 4 (found not guilty) on my record, that's it.
Alex, Esq.
Yes, so if you were found not guilty, it should not necessarily be an issue.
Yes, I just checked — harassment, assault in the second, assault in the fourth — but yes, not guilty. Feb of 2016.
And thank you.
Alex, Esq.
So I would give it a few weeks and you can call the clerk this morning to see typically what the judge does and if they sign off after review or when they will typically have a hearing. Since there is no minor child, an appearance is less likely.
Alex, Esq.
I'm happy to hear I was able to answer your question.
