I obtained new homeowners insurance and gave them a copy of my previous policy, asking for coverages to be similar. I also sent pictures of my home. It turns out they didn’t give me sufficient coverage, and now I have a loss. They also didn’t put the right information into my policy, like the fact that I have a metal roof — even though I told them and sent pictures. I feel like they made an error on my policy, and now I can’t reclaim losses.

I am a member of an HOA in Schaumburg, IL. Historically, and per the bylaws, the HOA would handle plumbing costs for issues in the shared main line/behind the wall. They just sent a bill to split a plumbing cost for snaking the main line, charging me (and the other three units) that share the drain, stating “sanitary wipes and other items have caused the blockage, and that damage is no longer covered by the HOA.” I don’t use wipes or throw items down. Given the bylaws say the common element is covered, and this is a common element, am I obligated to pay? The Board recently terminated the management company; the 200+ unit complex is now self-managed. I’m concerned they’re changing policy against the rules and bylaws.

Hello, my house was in foreclosure due to back mortgage payments. I was able to put off the auction by filing for bankruptcy. I want to work out a deal with my mortgage lenders to keep my house. What should I do? I was told I need both a bankruptcy lawyer and a real estate lawyer. I can barely afford one attorney, let alone two. P.S. I live in Brooklyn, New York. What would be a flat rate to hire an attorney to handle this for me?
